The United Kingdom’s Maritime Trade Operations Organization reported an incident in the Strait of Hormuz involving a tanker, 25 nautical miles northeast of the city of Khasab in Oman.

According to this report, a small boat approached the tanker that was intending to leave the Strait of Hormuz and attached two bombs to the hull of the vessel. The explosion of these bombs caused a fire in the engine room and temporarily disabled the tanker.

Despite the United States’ emphasis on clearing the Strait of Hormuz of sea mines, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has repeatedly claimed that vessels are being damaged after hitting mines.

The UK Maritime Trade Operations Organization says the crew are safe, the fire has been contained, and the tanker has resumed its journey toward its destination port.

Yesterday, this maritime security body also reported an attack on a dhow 9 nautical miles north of Khasab, an incident that led to the sinking of the vessel.
