Basent: We will likely seize Iran’s digital currency worth one billion dollars
🔸Scott Bessent, U.S. Treasury Secretary, says the United States will likely seize one billion dollars in digital currency belonging to the Islamic Republic this week.
🔸On Thursday, 16 Mehr, in an interview with Greta Van Susteren at the Newsmax network policy conference in Washington, Bessent emphasized that the campaign of the “economic expulsion” of the Islamic Republic has been effective and “goes far beyond oil exports and traditional economic sanctions.”
🔸In addition to the continued maritime blockade of Iran imposed by the U.S. Navy, the country’s Treasury Department, starting in early Shahrivar, launched intensified sanctions against Iran under the title “Economic Expulsion Operation.”
🔸Under this plan, the United States sanctioned all Iranian airline companies, and as a result, starting in early Mehr, a number of countries banned entry and exit for Iranian flights from their airports.
🔸He added: “We will probably seize one billion dollars in digital currency this week... We know where these assets are and we are isolating them.”
🔸The U.S. Treasury Secretary also mocked foreign travel by Iranian officials, saying “members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps can no longer go see their ‘plastic surgeon in London,’ their ‘girlfriend in Paris,’ and their money in Geneva.”
🔸He added: “If they love the Islamic Republic of Iran, they’re stuck there to enjoy it.”
