🔸A major fire at a historic lodge in southern Germany, built during Nazi rule and sometimes used by Adolf Hitler, has caused severe damage to the building.
🔸According to Reuters, the fire at the well-known building called the “Eagle’s Nest” began on Friday, 1 Aban, and about 200 firefighters and rescue personnel were mobilized to contain the flames in the mountainous area of Berchtesgaden in the state of Bavaria.
🔸The building, whose original name is “Kehlsteinhaus,” is located at an elevation of about 1,830 meters above sea level in the Alps and near the border between Germany and Austria.
🔸The lodge was built in 1938 to host Nazi Party officials and their guests, and Hitler also sometimes visited it; for that reason, it is also known as “Hitler’s teahouse.” The building is different from Hitler’s main summer residence, known as the “Berghof.”
🔸The German newspaper Bild, quoting a police spokesperson, wrote that the extent of the damage inflicted on this historic site is such that it is likely it cannot be saved.
