🔶 US Treasury Secretary: A deal with Iran over the Strait of Hormuz may be reached today or tomorrow

Scott Bessent, the US Treasury Secretary, said in an interview with CNBC that it is possible that within the next two days a deal with Iran could be reached to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and move toward a more normalized situation in the ongoing confrontation.

Bessent said: “We are in discussions with the Iranians, and I think there’s a possibility that today or tomorrow we could have an agreement to open the strait and move toward a more normal situation in this conflict.”

He did not provide further details about the negotiating parties, the possible terms of the agreement, or the role of intermediaries.

In response to a question about whether Tehran would be allowed to charge fees on transit ships, the US Treasury Secretary said that any possible agreement would focus on freedom of navigation through the strait.

He said: “That will be freedom of navigation.”
