The special envoy of the U.S. president for Syria and Iraq said that airstrikes attributed to Israel on the Abu al-Zuhur military base in the northwest of Syria are “an unnecessary escalation” that does not help regional stability.

Tom Barak, in a statement on X, said the United States is “deeply concerned” about these strikes and added that Washington encourages all parties to prefer “rational dialogue” over military incidents.

Barak said the government of Ahmad al-Shar has not taken an aggressive stance and has no proxy forces. He said this government has repeatedly announced that it prefers reducing tensions with Israel.

Israel has made no comment about these strikes.
