🔶UN High Commissioner for Human Rights: End executions in Iran

Volker Türk, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, said today, Wednesday, August 5 (14 Mordad), that since March 19, Iran has executed at least 56 people on charges related to national security, 27 of whom are linked to cases related to the bloody protests of December.

Türk, in a statement, said: “I am concerned about the increased number of executions and death sentences issued in Iran since March. I am also concerned that the death penalty continues to be used as a tool to create fear and panic among people and to suppress opponents.”

During the anti-government protests of December 1404, which Reuters said were the most severe domestic unrest in Iran in several decades, the Islamic Republic government killed thousands of people.
