According to a report by sources monitoring traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, the number of commercial vessels passing through this waterway has remained at a low level, even as CENTCOM and the U.S. government have claimed an increase in traffic through the strait over the past few days.

On Sunday, the “Straits - Straits” base reported that only eight commercial ships had transited the Strait of Hormuz.

Al Jazeera, citing the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), wrote that the level of ship traffic through the Strait of Hormuz is “much lower” than the figures announced by the United States.

However, with no incidents keeping the strait clear over the past three days, some cautious optimism emerged in oil markets, such that on Monday morning North Sea Brent oil—after having reached $108 per barrel last week—remained at around $104.
