🔻QatarEnergy: Repairing two damaged Ras Laffan LNG units could take up to three years

Saad Kaabi, CEO of QatarEnergy, says that repairing two LNG production units at the Ras Laffan complex that were damaged in the recent war could take as long as three years.

According to him, these attacks have taken 17% of Qatar’s liquefied gas production capacity offline.

Kaabi also said that the first unit of the “North Field East” gas field development project will enter production in the first half of 2027, but the commissioning of the subsequent units depends on the situation in the Strait of Hormuz.

He added that the equipment needed for this project has not yet been able to enter Qatar due to disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz.

QatarEnergy had also said the day before that the Strait of Hormuz crisis could delay some of its development projects.

The company is currently producing only a very small amount of LNG.

Kaabi said that if the Strait of Hormuz is reopened, normal gas operations in Qatar could resume within a few weeks.
