🔻 The White House rejects reports by U.S. media about the likelihood of Rubio and Hegset stepping down

The White House has denied rumors about the possible resignation of Pete Hegset, the U.S. Defense Secretary, and Marco Rubio, the U.S. Secretary of State, amid potential changes in Donald Trump’s administration after the election.

U.S. media have reported that calls have been made to remove Pete Hegset—especially due to how he managed the war with Iran, which some believe is a factor behind the Republicans’ heavy defeat in the elections.

One Republican congressman who is in the process of leaving his seat has threatened that he may set the impeachment process for Hegset in motion starting next week. The U.S. Defense Secretary also defended his performance by posting a video and condemned the effort.

He said: “You see, they attack me; they attack us because we are effective. These efforts won’t work. We are not backing down.”

Yasmin Ansari, a Democratic and Iranian-born member of the U.S. Congress, has also called for the impeachment of Pete Hegset.

Meanwhile, Marco Rubio has rejected reports about investigating the possibility of stepping down from his post in order to run in the 2028 presidential election.

In an interview with The New York Times, Mr. Rubio said that continuing to work with the Trump administration until the end of his presidential term has “always been my plan.”

He added: “I like what I do. Besides, when they say he is supposed to step down from his position, I always laugh and ask: from which position?”

The White House and the U.S. State Department also denied reports about the possibility of Rubio stepping down after this week’s electoral setbacks, and both described the reports as “fake news.”

On Thursday, Bloomberg, citing sources who asked not to be named, wrote that Marco Rubio is consulting with advisers about his political future.
