The Washington Times reported that U.S. President Donald Trump is considering three options regarding the Islamic Republic: broad military attacks, continuing economic pressure without an immediate expansion of the war, or reaching an agreement to end the conflict.

According to the newspaper, the war has entered its eighth month and limits on oil supply have increased fuel prices. At the same time, the Houthis’ advance and the capture of the strategic island of Maun have increased pressure on the energy transfer routes through the Red Sea and Bab el-Mandeb.

Inside the United States as well, pressure on Trump to set a course for the war has been increasing. On Friday, the House of Representatives voted for the third time on a bill that would make continued military operations against the Islamic Republic conditional on receiving congressional authorization. Seven Republicans also supported the bill.

The Washington Times said Iran’s economic situation is another factor affecting U.S. calculations. Based on the report, continuing economic pressure in order to further wear down the Islamic Republic is one option for Washington. Another option is expanding military operations, and the third path is reaching an agreement to end the war which, according to the newspaper, Tehran has so far refused to enter.
