🔻Saudi Arabia’s international golf tournaments postponed following Houthi attacks on Riyadh
Asian Golf Tour officials announced that they have postponed Saudi Arabia’s international golf tournament, in light of the deadly attack by Yemen’s Houthis on Riyadh’s international airport, until further notice.
In recent weeks, the Houthis have targeted airports, ports, and oil facilities in Saudi Arabia with ballistic missiles and drones. In the most recent attack on Riyadh last weekend, at least 12 people were killed and more than 300 others were injured.
In a statement, the Asian Golf Tour said that the decision to postpone the tournaments was made after reviewing the operational and logistical issues of holding the event, with the aim of maintaining its international standards.
The tournaments, which are organized with the support of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, have a total prize pool of five million dollars. They were scheduled to be held from November 18 to 21 at the Riyadh Golf Club.
Choo Min Tan, president of the Asian Golf Tour, expressed hope that players will be able to take part in these tournaments in Riyadh in the future.
No new date has been announced yet for holding the competitions.
