🔸The protests by French high school students, which began in the underprivileged suburbs of Paris with objections to a shortage of teachers, crowded classrooms, and poor conditions in schools, have now involved more than 1,200 high schools across the country.
🔸According to figures from the French Ministry of the Interior, during the past few days more than five thousand people have been detained in the course of these protests, and in some cases the police have used tear gas and plastic bullets to disperse the protesters.
🔸The recent protests began in late Shahrivar (late August/early September) at a high school in the Paris suburbs, and then spread to other underprivileged suburbs, reaching Paris itself and cities including Marseille, Strasbourg, Tours, and Lille.
🔸At Lycée Le Corbusier in the northern suburbs of Paris, a 15-year-old student held a placard at a rally in front of the school that read: “Our address should not determine our future.”
