Fاطمه الزهرا المنصوری introduced as Morocco’s first female prime minister
🔸The King of Morocco on Tuesday, the seventh of Mehr, introduced Fاطمه الزهرا المنصوری as the first female prime minister of this country.
🔸Ms. المنصوری had previously been the mayor of Morocco, the country’s former capital. Seven weeks ago, her party, known as “Authenticity and Modernity” — in Arabic “Asâla wa Mu‘asara” — which is considered a centrist right-leaning party, won in parliamentary elections, and accordingly, the Moroccan king tasked her with forming the new government.
🔸Although voter turnout in the recent Moroccan elections was the lowest in two decades, Ms. المنصوری’s party managed to secure 97 seats out of the 395-seat parliament in its name, thereby creating a gap of 31 seats from its closest rival.
🔸According to an announcement by Morocco’s royal cabinet, King Mohammed VI asked the 50-year-old politician — who had also served as a member of the cabinet for a period — to form the new government.
🔸Since the “Authenticity and Modernity” party did not achieve an absolute majority, Fاطمه الزهرا المنصوری must form a coalition government for the five-year term ahead, with the participation of other parties in the country.
🔸Ms. المنصوری was first elected 17 years ago as Morocco’s first female mayor.
🔸The “Authenticity and Modernity” party was founded 18 years ago by Fouad Ali El-Hamma, the current adviser to the king, as a rival to Morocco’s Islamist movement.
