🔶Possibility of a spread of pneumonic plague in Siberia; hospital quarantine in Russia

The inpatient wing of a regional hospital in the city of Shelekhov, near Irkutsk (the center of the Siberian region), was placed under full quarantine due to a suspected case of infection with an extremely dangerous pathogen. According to reports, a young woman has died after contracting "pneumonic plague"; however, Russian health authorities have not officially confirmed these reports so far.

The patient was hospitalized on Tuesday with severe pneumonia symptoms and died on Thursday after being transferred to a ventilator. The first indications emerged on social media about the closure of the center, and then Maksim Modin, the regional governor, confirmed the quarantine of the hospital’s inpatient ward, although its outpatient clinic wing remains operational.
