Amaran of Killing documentary series; Part Three: 377 Lives
In its detailed report on the crackdown on the Women, Life, Freedom uprising, Amnesty International has recorded at least 377 people killed. Although it emphasizes that the actual number of deaths is far higher than this figure. Among them, the names and exact details of 326 protesters and bystanders have been documented as having been killed by security forces while dispersing demonstrations or in areas with extensive military presence. 302 people died from direct gunfire, 45 of whom were killed by shotgun pellets. Amnesty International says it has been able to gather sufficient evidence for 233 individuals to show that their killings, under international law, were “unlawful.” This means that the security forces used weapons not to avert a threat, but to punish and to instill fear. The organization adds that the remaining cases also very likely fall under the same legal principle, though they require further investigation.
