Poland’s financial incentives for creating a permanent U.S. base; $15,000 per year for each American soldier
🔸 Poland, alongside progress in negotiations between Warsaw and Washington to establish a permanent U.S. military base in this country, has proposed that if American forces are stationed there permanently, it will pay $15,000 annually for each soldier and also cover infrastructure costs.
🔸 Paweł Zalewski, Poland’s deputy defense minister, said in an interview with Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty in Washington on Friday, the third of Mehr, that talks with the Pentagon are now focused on how to implement the plan, including the type of forces, required capabilities, and the likely location of their deployment.
🔸 Asked who would pay that money, the deputy defense minister of Poland said: “Polish taxpayers.”
🔸 The United States currently has thousands of military personnel in Poland, but most of them are present in a rotational manner. Poland has also become one of the key centers of NATO operations on the eastern flank of the alliance.
🔸 Donald Trump, the U.S. president, announced on September 26 that “major progress” had been made toward creating a U.S. army base in Poland and that if an agreement is finalized, its location will be announced soon.
