Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif warned at the United Nations General Assembly on Friday that the fighting is escalating dangerously and that the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab al-Mandeb should not become “flashpoints of confrontation.” Emphasizing that the voice of diplomacy must be louder than the “roar of missiles, drones and weapons,” he called these two waterways “the arteries of the global economy” and said they should carry “the promise of prosperity, not the dangers of war.”
