🔻Israeli President Isaac Herzog called for a “complete” investigation into the allegation of foreign involvement in the country’s elections, but warned that such investigations should not “tarnish” the entire image of Israel’s Arab Friday community.
After Benjamin Netanyahu and his allies claimed “electoral bribery” to Israel’s Arab public in order to increase their participation in the elections, Israel’s internal security agency, “Shin Bet,” was tasked with investigating allegations relating to the possible transfer of money from Turkey and Qatar to Israel in order to influence the votes of Arab communities.
The “Joint List” party, a coalition of parties that are mostly made up of Israeli Arabs, described Netanyahu’s claims of fraud and foreign interference in the elections as baseless and accused him of trying to undermine the outcome of the voting.
In a statement, the coalition said: “Netanyahu’s provocative campaign and his fascist coalition against the votes of Arab citizens reveals their fear of the political power of this community.”
Qatar also denied any involvement in Israel’s elections in a statement today.
