🔻How are seats in the Israeli parliament allocated?

Israel uses a proportional representation system to elect political parties to its parliament, which is called the Knesset.

The Israeli parliament has 120 seats, which are allocated to each party in direct proportion to the number of votes that party receives.

Voters vote for a party, not for individual candidates.

Each party presents a ranked list of its candidates, and Knesset seats are assigned to them based on the final number of seats each party wins.

No single party has ever been able to obtain a sufficient number of the 120 seats to win a majority; this means that each government is a coalition made up of at least two parties.

This gives smaller parties significant power to form or topple a coalition government.
