🔶 Iran’s representative at the United Nations: We have not suspended oversight commitments toward the agency

Gholamhossein Darzi, Iran’s ambassador and chargé d’affaires at the United Nations, said that Tehran has “neither set aside nor suspended” its safeguards commitments—that is, the commitments related to the International Atomic Energy Agency’s supervision of nuclear materials and activities.

According to Tasnim News Agency, on Friday, October 23 (November 2), Darzi said at a session of the UN General Assembly that military attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities have changed the security conditions for implementing these commitments.

He, referring to Iran’s membership in the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons since 1970, emphasized that Tehran, despite the attacks, has remained committed to its international obligations.

The ambassador and chargé d’affaires of the Islamic Republic at the United Nations also said that since the Agency has confirmed that its inspectors left Iran for security reasons, when requesting their return, these concerns cannot be ignored.
