Johann Wedephol, Germany’s foreign minister, called for an end to attacks by the Islamic Republic and the Houthis on shipping and neighboring countries, and said these actions have put pressure on global trade and the supply of energy and fertilizer. Wedephol said on Friday, 1 Aban, after a meeting with his European and regional counterparts in Istanbul, that Tehran must show serious readiness to reach a diplomatic and sustainable solution, set aside maximal demands, and enter negotiations. He added that the United Kingdom, France, and Germany are ready to play a role in nuclear talks and that if Tehran enters serious negotiations that would prevent it from reaching a nuclear weapon, they will reverse the course of sanctions. The German foreign minister said efforts in the coming days will focus on bringing the parties back to the negotiating table and preventing any renewed recourse to a nuclear weapon. He added that establishing security in the region and restoring freedom of navigation can directly affect the world’s welfare and food security.
