🔶 America: We do not have a joint plan with Turkey to change Lebanon’s political structure

Tomi Phigout, a spokesperson for the U.S. State Department, denied that there is a joint plan by Washington and Ankara regarding Lebanon and said that it does not support any proposal to change this country’s political structure based on the “Taif Agreement.”

Phigout said that the United States remains committed to cooperation with Lebanon and Israel within a trilateral framework in order to end the cycle of conflict by implementing its main components.

He identified the disarmament of Hezbollah, establishing long-term security for Lebanon and Israel, and creating peaceful relations between the two countries as the three pillars of this framework. In this statement, Phigout described Hezbollah as a “proxy terrorist group of Iran.”

According to the State Department spokesperson, relations between the two countries should be based on mutual respect for each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He added that Washington welcomes the involvement of international partners to achieve these goals.

In these remarks, Phigout did not provide any timing or details about how this framework would be implemented.
