🔻 The name of Fujairah has been raised many times in recent months amid tensions between Iran and the UAE; a port city on the coast of the Sea of Oman in an emirate of the same name, whose oil installations have been targeted several times in recent months, and whose oil activities have faced disruption.

The importance of Fujairah is, above all, due to its geography. Unlike the main ports of Abu Dhabi and Dubai, Fujairah is on the other side of the Strait of Hormuz, facing the Sea of Oman. A pipeline connecting Abu Dhabi’s oil fields to this port allows the UAE to deliver part of its crude oil to global markets without passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

But the recent war and severe disruption to vessel traffic in the Strait of Hormuz raise the question of how much Fujairah can reduce the UAE’s dependence on this strait, and whether it itself has become a new vulnerable point?
