🔻Female lawyers sentenced to death in the U.S. call for a reduction in the sentence
The lawyers of Krista Pike, a woman sentenced to death in the U.S. state of Tennessee, have asked the governor of the state to reduce her death sentence. The request was made after she survived two attempts to carry out the sentence by injection of a lethal substance.
Krista Pike, who was sentenced to death for murder 30 years ago, was taken to hospital after the attempt to carry out the sentence by injection failed. Her physical condition is not known.
Pike’s lawyers say they do not know the extent of any possible damage to her brain because her medical information is confidential.
One of her lawyers told the BBC that the 50-year-old Ms. Pike, after the injection of two syringes containing the drug “pentobarbital” on Wednesday, was in hospital under life-saving measures.
In 1996, she was sentenced to death for the murder of 19-year-old Colleen Slemr.
