🔶Putin expressed hope that the Strait of Hormuz will reopen
Vladimir Putin, president of Russia, on Thursday, October 1 (Mehr 9), expressed hope that the Strait of Hormuz will remain open for shipping and that the sanctions imposed on Iran will ultimately be lifted.
Speaking at the Valdai International Discussion Club meeting in Moscow, Putin again announced Russia’s readiness to take delivery of Iran’s enriched uranium. He said that Russia’s proposal to receive this uranium, if the materials are removed from Iran, remains valid and is still on the table.
Russia had previously proposed that Iran’s stocks of enriched uranium be transferred to Russia in order to be used or stored within the framework of a nuclear or political agreement.
The transfer of enriched uranium is one of the most sensitive issues in Iran–U.S. nuclear negotiations. A senior Iranian official told Reuters last week that Tehran would not make concessions in the nuclear talks regarding the right to enrich uranium or the transfer of highly enriched uranium abroad.
