🔻Cristiano Ronaldo announced that he has retired from national team football.

The 41-year-old player said that after the end of this month’s national team matches, he will hand over the number 7 shirt.

Ronaldo has appeared in 234 matches for the Portugal national team and scored 146 goals. He is the record holder for the most international appearances and, by breaking Ali Daei’s record, the holder of the title for the most goals scored in international football in the world—an Iranian legend.

In a video he released to announce his retirement, Ronaldo said: «If I’ve made you happy even once; if one of my goals has made someone hug; if it has helped someone forget their worries; or if it has made you proud of our country—then all of these efforts have been worth it.»

After a recent call-up to the Portugal national team, Ronaldo previously left a training camp in protest following an argument with Jorge Jesus, the team’s coach.
