🔻World leaders react to Democrats’ impressive victories
🖋Jacob Evans, BBC World Service
It is not surprising that some of the leaders who have been targeted by criticism from Donald Trump have welcomed these sweeping results for the Democratic Party. Pedro Sánchez, the left-wing prime minister of Spain, said that Americans voted against hate, denial of climate change, and elites with special privileges. Jonas Gahr Støre, the prime minister of Norway, a country that Trump has been verbally attacking in recent weeks for not awarding him the Nobel Peace Prize, said that voices are emerging in the United States that align more closely with the Oslo principles. Cyril Ramaphosa, the president of South Africa, a country that Trump has accused of committing genocide against white people, said that these elections will mark the beginning of a new era in global relations. Meanwhile, Chrystel Schaldemose, vice president of the European Parliament, expressed cautious optimism that these results could mean more support for Ukraine.
