🔻A historic night in the U.S. election: the first Native and Black women governors, and the first openly gay man senator

Vote counting in several states is still ongoing, but this is a historic night.

In four states, we have seen a series of firsts: Abdulrahman Mohamed Syed, or as he became known in American media during this election, Abdel Syed—after defeating Republican Mike Rogers in Michigan as predicted, he will be the first Muslim senator.

Keisha Lance Bottoms, after winning in Georgia against Republican Rick Jackson, will be the first Black woman ever elected as governor in the United States.

Chris Pappas from New Hampshire will be the first openly gay man to go to the U.S. Senate.

Deb Haaland, after winning in New Mexico, is the first Native American woman elected as governor.
