🔻Basanti: With the success of the economic isolation operation, the IRGC talks about collapse
Scott Bessent, the U.S. Treasury Secretary, says that as a result of the “economic isolation operation,” Iran is in the process of cutting the budget of its proxy groups.
On Wednesday, in an interview with CNBC, he assessed the United States’ efforts to isolate Iran’s economy as “highly successful.”
He said: “Iranian officials started to express clear concerns about the economic situation in the summer. Now, the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps is extremely concerned and, publicly and in private circles, is talking about collapse.”
Referring to Iran’s loss of access to dollars, Bessent added: “We are seeing that the budget of Iran’s proxy groups, including the Houthis, Hamas, or Hezbollah, is being cut off.”
This is while last Monday, Reuters reported, citing a knowledgeable source and a person close to Hezbollah, that the group received tens of millions of dollars from Iran to strengthen its military capabilities.
However, amid economic pressures, Iran’s official inflation rate has reached its highest level since 1322.
Reports indicate that the official inflation rate in Iran has risen for the twentieth consecutive month.
According to assessments by the Statistical Center of Iran, the annual inflation rate in Mehr 1405 reached 76.8 percent, with an increase of more than three percentage points compared to the previous month.
That means the prices of consumer goods and services in Mehr of this year were on average 4.4 percent higher than in Shahrivar of this year and 88.7 percent higher than in Mehr 1404.
