Bahman Abdi, Director General of the Youth Ministry’s Office of Planning and Social Participation at the Ministry of Sport and Youth, said that the registration of 13-year-old girls in matchmaking systems with the consent of their families, under existing laws, does not necessarily constitute a legal violation.

In response to the removal of the matchmaking app “Adam and Eve” from Google and Meta platforms, he said: “If girls over 13 register in peer-matching systems with the consent of their families, then, considering the current legal regulations, this matter is subject to review and it is not possible to regard the mere registration of these individuals as a legal violation.”

The ministry official, referring to the reaction of human rights institutions to the registration of underage girls, said that under current circumstances there is no clear legal basis for dealing with this group.

He added that matchmaking centers have been advised to raise the minimum age for accepting girls to above 15.
