🔶 Axios reports on Trump’s meeting with Saudi Arabia’s defense minister

According to Axios, Donald Trump, the U.S. president, met on Wednesday, July 29 (Mordad 7), with Khalid bin Salman, Saudi Arabia’s defense minister, in Washington. The meeting took place after joint U.S. and Saudi attacks against groups aligned with the Islamic Republic in Iraq.

The news website, citing an informed source, reported that Khalid bin Salman’s meeting with Trump was added to the Saudi defense minister’s travel schedule, after he met with J.D. Vance, the U.S. vice president, and told him that Riyadh wants to reduce tensions with Tehran.

In Axios’ report, citing this source, it said the purpose of these meetings was “to convey a message from Mohammed bin Salman, the Saudi crown prince, about the war with Iran and the situation in the region.”

Saudi Arabia is considered one of the key allies of the United States in the region, and as Axios wrote, despite tensions that have arisen intermittently in the past five months, since the start of the war the country has repeatedly managed to influence Trump’s Iran policy.
