Axios reported that it has obtained a document from the U.S. Treasury Department showing that Iran’s general inflation rate reached 90% in September. The report links the increase in inflation to the devaluation of the rial and Iran’s restricted access to international markets following the economic pressure campaign by the Donald Trump administration.
Based on the document, Iran’s general inflation rate was around 70% before the start of the U.S. and Israel attacks in Esfand 1404, and the core inflation rate, excluding highly volatile items such as food and energy, was recorded in September at just over 70%. The unofficial dollar rate in October also reached 2,687,000 rials.
In the report, the U.S. Treasury Department said that since September 3—one day after the announcement of the start of the campaign “Operation Economic Expulsion”—no new oil shipment has been loaded in Iran. According to the ministry, U.S. sanctions and a maritime blockade have limited Iran’s oil exports, and Washington has also targeted alternative routes for transferring money, including cryptocurrency networks.
