👈Axios: Iran and the United States keep talking, but they don’t understand each other’s words
Barak Ravid, writing in Axios, said that both Tehran and Washington speak of a preference for diplomacy, but that an agreement is farther away than ever; over the past 18 months, two rounds of talks have failed, and on each occasion it has led to war, while the June understanding agreement lasted only a few days.
According to Axios, the problem is not only the terms of the agreement; Trump is looking for a quick, workable deal, while Iran sees negotiations as a longer process and wants assurances and to receive concessions before taking action.
The report identifies this “total lack of trust” as the core of the stalemate; Tehran accuses the United States of carrying out an attack in the middle of the talks, while Washington says Iran violated it after the June understanding.
Axios writes that the disagreement is about who gives concessions first and what guarantee exists for the other side’s compliance; a gap that again brings each round of diplomacy back to threats, sanctions, and the danger of war.
