Axios reported, citing three American, Israeli and regional sources, that Qatar, with the support of several regional countries, is trying to restart negotiations by reaching an agreement between Washington and Tehran and to prevent the outbreak of renewed war after the U.S. midterm elections.

According to the report, Qatar is trying to persuade the Islamic Republic to allow International Atomic Energy Agency inspectors to visit Iran’s bombed nuclear facilities in exchange for a partial reduction of U.S. sanctions.

Axios wrote that if diplomatic efforts fail, there is a slight possibility of a new round of U.S. and Israeli attacks shortly after the U.S. midterm elections. According to U.S. and Israeli officials, the possible operation could include a week of wide-ranging attacks on the leadership of the Islamic Republic and on Iran’s energy, nuclear, and infrastructure targets.
