A representative of the European Union announced that the EU has sanctioned 37 individuals and 9 entities since Dey 1404 for their role in human rights abuses in Iran, and is prepared to take further action if necessary.

Speaking on Wednesday, 6 Aban, at the Third Committee meeting of the United Nations General Assembly, he referred to the protests of Dey 1404 and said: “At the request of protesters for freedom and a better life, the security forces of the Islamic Republic responded with lethal force and excessive violence, and since then, domestic repression has increased.”

Condemning the increase in executions and the use of torture, the EU representative called for the immediate halt of all executions, the release of those arbitrarily detained, and guarantees of fair trials.

He also emphasized the need to end systematic discrimination against women and girls and to respect freedom of expression, peaceful assembly, and Iranians’ right to choose their future.

Expressing concern about the killing of civilians during the war, “including the victims of the attack on the Minab school,” the EU representative called on all parties to the conflict to reduce tensions, exercise maximum restraint, and comply with international law.
