Ahmadreza Lahijan-zadeh, deputy for marine environment and wetlands at the Department of Environment Protection, said on Wednesday the 28th of Mordad to the state news agency IRNA that a new wave of oil pollution has been observed on the coasts of Sazah in Qeshm.
He added that a significant portion of the previous pollution had been cleaned up, but the effects of the new wave of pollution can be clearly seen on the shore.
The first reports of oil pollution on the coasts of Sazah, Shib Daraz, and Naqasheh in Qeshm were published on the 19th of Mordad, and on the 26th of Mordad the General Directorate of Ports and Maritime Affairs in Hormozgan had reported the end of cleanup operations.
Lahijan-zadeh said that upon observing the new wave of pollution, a group of managers and experts from the Department of Environment Protection were dispatched to Qeshm to assess the situation and prevent the spread of pollution to sensitive areas and mangrove forests.
