Abrahim Rezaei, a member of the Parliament’s National Security Commission, said in a speech at the University of Medical Sciences in Bushehr: “One cannot ignore the possibility of renewed clashes, and maintaining defensive readiness and enhancing the country’s deterrence capability, as well as its missile power and nuclear capacities, are among the important components of national power.”
This member of parliament added: “In addition to its economic role in global energy trade, the Strait of Hormuz enjoys strategic and security importance, and the manner in which ships’ traffic is managed there is directly related to Iran’s national interests.”
Rezaei further said: “Decision-making about the Strait of Hormuz must be carried out with regard to security considerations and the country’s interests, and recent developments have made the importance of this waterway in regional and international equations more clear than before.”
