🔶 The U.S. held fresh talks to end the war in Ukraine
The United States has resumed its diplomatic efforts to end the war in Ukraine; an effort taking place under the shadow of new attacks by Russia, an energy crisis in Ukraine, and Donald Trump’s controversial decision to reach an agreement with Moscow regarding diesel exports.
On Friday, October 10 (Mehr 18), U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff described the meeting as “constructive” after talks with Ukrainian representatives and several European countries.
He wrote on the social media platform X that the talks included discussions about “short-term steps to prepare Ukraine for winter,” including strengthening energy infrastructure and grain exports.
According to Witkoff, security guarantees and “long-term arrangements for the security of Ukraine and Europe” were also among the topics raised at the meeting.
According to U.S. sources, the aim of the Miami meeting was to examine “new ideas” from Washington for bringing an end to the Russia-Ukraine war. One of the focuses of these plans has been described as a project for “economic prosperity after the war.”
