A wave of youth protests in Europe has reached Switzerland.

Protests by young people on the evening of Saturday, the ninth of Aban, in District 4 of Zurich turned violent. Masked individuals set garbage trucks, scooters and electric bicycles on fire and built barricades with them, broke windows, and splattered the facades of buildings with paint.

Police used water cannons, tear gas, and plastic bullets. The tear gas also reached Halloween celebrations near the area.

Ross Taylor, one of the owners of the Bar Flux, said his staff pulled four vehicles out of the fire and called the police’s approach “somewhat dangerous.”

Barricading and arson have also been reported in Basel. The Zurich and Basel police have not yet released statistics on arrests and injuries.
