The group “Diarrhea-possessed Riglet” will hold a gathering today, Saturday, the Ninth of Aban, in 34 cities across Germany, including Berlin, Frankfurt, and Munich, and, according to the organizers, more than 160,000 people are taking part. Their demands include better education, lower cost of living, and the abolition of compulsory military service.
German officials mostly predicted that the gatherings would remain peaceful, but they warned about the exploitation of the events by extremist groups. The Federal Ministry of the Interior of Germany announced that parts of the left-wing extremist scene and groups linked to foreign extremist movements have joined in the mobilization of supporters. Roman Possk, the interior minister of the state of Hesse, said, “France should not be used as a model in this regard,” and referred to the looting and the burning of police vehicles in France. A number of businesses on Berlin’s luxury Kurfürstendamm avenue nailed up their windows.
The national organization of German students distanced itself from the campaign and announced a separate day of protest on the 29th of Aban. A wave of Gen Z rallies has swept across Europe this year, and France is also deploying 70,000 police and gendarmes today.
