🔶 Cyberattack on more than 400 supermarkets in France; spoiled food was discarded
A cyberattack on cooling systems of hundreds of supermarkets in France caused spoilage of a large volume of fresh and frozen food. The attack, which took place on the evening of October 12, has increased concerns about the security of the food supply chain in Europe.
According to reports, more than 400 stores were affected by the attack. The attackers, with access to the refrigeration systems of chain stores including Intermarché, Carrefour, E.Leclerc, and the cooperative group U, activated the de-icing cycle of the devices. In some cases, the temperature of refrigerators stocked with food reached 50 degrees Celsius for more than six hours. The affected stores said they were forced to throw away their fresh and frozen products.
The Paris prosecutor’s office has confirmed the occurrence of these attacks and reported a fire incident at some stores.
