The UK Maritime Trade Operations Center announced on Thursday, 9 Mehr, that it had received a report about an oil tanker being targeted while transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the report, which was received from a third-party source, the tanker was hit by an unidentified projectile and, following the impact, a fire broke out on the vessel.
The center said the tanker’s crew are safe, but at the time the report was published, the extent of the damage to the vessel and the environmental consequences of the incident were not yet known.
The UK Maritime Trade Operations Center asked ships to exercise caution when passing through the area and to report any suspicious activity. Authorities are investigating the incident.
