🔸Amnesty International, emphasizing that flogging is a “form of torture,” urged officials of the Islamic Republic to immediately halt the flogging sentence of Parasto Ahmadi, a singer, as well as eight other people associated with the “Caravanserai Concert.”
🔸The Iran section of Amnesty International wrote in a message published on Thursday, 9 Mehr, on the institution’s social media networks: “Parasto Ahmadi performed in a concert that was broadcast online in 1403, without mandatory hijab and wearing sleeveless clothing, and footage of this performance was viewed millions of times.”
🔸The organization, referring to the confirmation of the first-instance ruling against Parasto Ahmadi and the organizers of the “Caravanserai Concert” at the Provincial Court of Appeal in Qom, called flogging “cruel, inhuman, and degrading,” and said that such a punishment violates the absolute prohibition of torture and other ill-treatment.
🔸Amnesty International also urged the Islamic Republic to abolish mandatory hijab and corporal punishments and to end “criminalization of freedom of expression.”
🔸Parasto Ahmadi, four musicians, and four other individuals, in addition to 74 lashes, have been sentenced to two years of prohibition from working in audio-visual matters and a ban on leaving the country.
