A U.S. federal court found Haadi Matar, a man who attacked Salman Rushdie, the British-American author, in 2022, guilty of supporting a foreign “terrorist” group and carrying out orders from the Iranian government. Rushdie was seriously injured in the attack in Mordad 1401 (August 2022) and lost the sight in his right eye. With the court’s new ruling, he may remain in prison for the rest of his life.

Hopeh Emad (Amid Emad), a political analyst, said that prosecutors were able to convince the jury that Haadi Matar’s motive for the crime was carrying out a fatwa by Ruhollah Khomeini.
