The Wall Street Journal reports that airports in Persian Gulf countries, which have been developed with investments totaling hundreds of billions of dollars, are now under missile and drone attacks by the Islamic Republic of Iran and its allied groups.

According to the newspaper, airports in all countries in the region except Oman have been targeted, and at least 28 instances of impacts near the airports have been recorded. Attacks on the airports in Dubai and Riyadh have damaged facilities, disrupted flights, and increased security and insurance costs.

This situation has delayed the return of Western airline companies to the region and has affected tourism, international conferences, and the security credibility of the Gulf countries.

However, Dubai is continuing the $35 billion expansion plan for Al Maktoum Airport, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s King Salman Airport project may face delays.

The newspaper added that airports play a key role in reducing the region’s dependence on oil, and experts warn that protective security measures do not guarantee their full security.
