In a report on the seizure of a shipment of explosive materials, the Wall Street Journal published new details about the composition of the shipment belonging to Lebanon’s Hezbollah and the group’s disagreements with the Lebanese government over disarmament.

The shipment, which was seized last week while being transferred from the Beqaa region to Beirut, included C4 explosive material and TNT. According to the Associated Press, Lebanese judicial officials have stated that the weight of the shipment was about 780 kilograms, of which 250 kilograms was C4 and 250 kilograms was TNT.

Reuters, citing a Hezbollah official and a Lebanese security source, also reported that the materials were intended to be used in explosive drones to attack Israeli forces.

The Wall Street Journal wrote that the seizure of the shipment has made the differences between Hezbollah and the Lebanese government clearer; a government that has committed to placing control of weapons in the hands of official institutions.

Meanwhile, the use of C4 explosives in Lebanon’s past political assassinations has raised concerns about the possibility that the shipment could be used against internal opponents. Hezbollah has rejected any plans for such actions.
