The Israeli army said it targeted one of Hamas’s commanders who took part in the violent attack on Israel on October 7 and held several Israeli civilians hostage in Gaza in an airstrike.
According to an Israeli army statement, the operation was carried out on the 8th of Mordad, during which “Mohammad Basam Mohammad Mashtai,” a commander of the Al-Shati battalion affiliated with Hamas, was severely injured and was killed a few days later.
The Israeli army says he was responsible for keeping and imprisoning a number of Israeli citizens who were abducted on October 7.
According to the Israeli army, in recent weeks, this individual had tried to carry out “terrorist” plans against the army forces and non-combatant civilians.
The United States and Israel, along with some other countries, have designated Hamas as a terrorist group.
