India’s embassy in Yemen says all 14 Indian crew members whose vessel was targeted off Yemen’s coasts are safe.
The Houthi militants backed by the Islamic Republic claimed on Thursday that Saudi Arabia attacked a cruise ship carrying 14 Indian crew members near Zuqar Island, near the Bab al-Mandab Strait.
However, on Thursday, India’s Ministry of External Affairs condemned attacks on non-military infrastructure and energy in Saudi Arabia and called them “unacceptable.”
India is the world’s third-largest supplier of maritime labor, and more than 300,000 Indian sailors work on shipping fleets operating internationally.
According to reports by Indian media, since the start of the fighting in the Middle East in February, 16 Indian sailors have been killed in the Persian Gulf and in wider maritime areas of West Asia, three others are still missing, and 33 Indian crew members have been injured.
