The Islamic Republic, after Baghdad’s repeated requests through various channels, issued permission for a number of Iraqi oil tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.
IRNA, the state news agency, wrote that receiving a special permit for Iraqi tankers was one of Baghdad’s main demands during the visit of Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf, the Speaker of the Iranian parliament, to Iraq.
On Wednesday, Qalibaf arrived in Baghdad at the head of a high-ranking parliamentary delegation. Earlier, Iraq’s Shafaq News Agency, citing an informed source, reported that the real agenda was different. Based on that report, Qalibaf’s proposed agenda included a proposal to allow Iraq’s oil exports to transit through the Strait of Hormuz.
The Iraqi oil minister had previously said that Baghdad is in contact with Tehran in order to obtain permission for some Iraqi tankers to pass.
