The Tehran Criminal Court has sentenced Hamid-Hossein Karbaschi, the editor-in-chief of the newspaper Ham-Mihan, to one year in prison and a two-year ban on any kind of media activity on charges of “disturbing public minds” and “publishing false factual content.”
Among the documents cited in the indictment are the note titled “From Dey 57 to Dey 1404” and items with the titles “Conviction of the detention of children and adolescents,” “A historic time of selection for reformists,” “When the treatment boundary is broken,” and “Parties and protests.”
The newspaper Ham-Mihan was last shut down on January 19, 1404 (29 Dey 1404), by order of the Board of Oversight of the Press.
Branch One of the Tehran Criminal Court said that “considering the age and social status of this former politician and cleric, the prison sentence will be suspended for five years; however, in order to safeguard society, the named person is prohibited for two years from any employment involving media activity.”
